Have you ever seen a big ball of bees? Yesterday, my husband was outside in our front yard he looked up and noticed a huge ball of bees in my neighbor's tree!

When I got home, John pointed it out to me (from far away of course!) and it looked like a big ball of netting in the tree. As I got closer, I could see...it was solid bees!

John remembered that our dentist Dr. Gibson is a bee keeper. John called him and he sent out his friend Robbie Hines, who is also a bee keeper.  I learned a lot about bees yesterday!

Robbie came over and gently vacuumed up the bees into a plexiglass box. Yeah, Robbie has the bee keeper's outfit on, but no gloves? Luckily, he's not allergic to bee stings! Still, Brave Man!

He told me and John that when bees swarm, it's usually about half of a hive. They wait until a new queen bee is born then they take the existing queen and find a new home, but they eat a lot of honey first! They don't know when their next meal will be so they eat good! Since the bees bellies were full, Robbie said they are pretty docile. Kinda like we are after our Thanksgiving Feast!

The ball of bees we had in the tree was their temporary home. The bees then send some bees out to scout for a new permanent home. How amazing is this?

After Robbie finished gathering the bees. There were a few still flying around. I asked, what happens to those bees? Robbie said, they will go back to the original hive. I'm hoping the "scout" bees will too! Can you imagine? Those bees sent out to scout for a new home, come back and no ones there! I'm sure they'll go back to the original bee hive also, but I have a feeling their saying "Hey, if your gonna leave, can't ya just text me and let me know?"

Robbie said this was about 4,000 bees! Here they are in the box. Yikes!

Yikes! But, I bet there's some good honey in the future!
