In advance of the release of his Sinner album, Aaron Lewis has shared the project's title track, which features Willie Nelson.

"Sinner" proves that the Staind frontman can hang in the country world thanks to its down-home instrumentation, Lewis' deep and steady voice -- and, of course, Nelson. There's an old-school vibe to the tune as well: The lyrics are simple, leaving listeners to focus mostly on song's melody and country-rock feel.

"I hope the Lord can come save my soul / 'Cause I'm a sinner to my core / I ask forgiveness and nothing more," Lewis sings. "Darkness surrounds me, and I can't see / All of the demons right here with me / 'Cause I'm a sinner to my core / I ask forgiveness and nothing more."

Lewis takes the lead on the first verse of "Sinner," while Nelson gets center stage for the second, with Lewis harmonizing. Readers can press play above to hear the track.

Sinner, Lewis' first album with Dot Records, is set to be released on Sept. 16. In addition to its title track, Sinner features 10 other songs, of which Lewis wrote or co-wrote nine.

“I’d like to think that Sinner is a newer take on classic, traditional outlaw country, Waylon [Jennings] and Merle [Haggard] and Willie and Hank [Williams] Jr. and Johnny Cash and all that stuff,” says Lewis. “That was the music I heard a kid, and that’s the country music that permeated my soul and stuck with me my whole life.”

Sinner is available for pre-order via Amazon and iTunes.
