Unified Grocers Inc. has issued an allergy alert on undeclared eggs in its Special Value Ginger Snap Cookies. The Food and Drug Administration has issued a notice.

The cookies were distributed throughout retail stores in California, Arizona, and Nevada and come in a 12 ounce plastic package. They are marked with a best by date of Sept. 23, 2014.

The recall began after it was discovered that the bags were mistakenly packaged with cinnamon sugar cookies containing eggs, an ingredient not found on the Special Value Ginger Snap Cookies' packaging. The mistake was found during a routine sampling by Unified Grocers Inc., who ultimately discovered the product was mislabeled.

Production of the product has been suspended during the investigation and consumers who have purchased Special Value Ginger Snap Cookies are urged to return the product for a full refund. Click here for more information.
