Dr. Emily Cutrer, president of Texas A&M University-Texarkana, has been recognized with a Member in Print Award by the Texas State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

The award was presented to Dr. Cutrer following Delta Kappa Gamma’s 89th Texas State Organization Convention in Frisco, Texas. Delta Kappa Gamma members Debbie Shidemantle and Sara Langford with the A&M-Texarkana Teacher Preparation program presented  Dr. Cutrer the award. Each year at the convention, members who have published books are recognized for their accomplishments.

Dr. Cutrer was recognized for the re-release of her 1988 book, “The Art of the Woman,” in March by Texas A&M University Press as part of its Ellen C. Temple Classics in Texas Women’s History series.

“The Art of the Woman” explores the life of German-born Elisabet Ney, a sculptor whose works included sculptures of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin and can be found in the Texas State Capitol, the U.S. Capitol and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

“It was indeed an honor to have my book included in the Texas A&M University Press’s Ellen C. Temple Classics in Texas Women’s History series.  And I am so grateful to the women of Delta Kappa Gamma for their recognition of my work through the Member in Print Award.  As a native Texan, this project was a wonderful experience, marrying my love of art and history, and this recognition by such a prestigious organization as Delta Kappa Gamma is quite gratifying.”

Delta Kappa Gamma is a professional honor society of key women educators in the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Japan. Its mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Other A&M-Texarkana members of Delta Kappa Gamma include Dr. Sara Lawrence, Dr. Maria Roberts, Dr. Sandy Labby, Dr. Abbie Strunc and Dr. Jauquita Hargus.
