Time to have some fun and reel in some fish.

The City of Texarkana, Texas Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the 24th Annual Texarkana Fishing Derby from 8:30AM to 1:30PM this Thursday and Friday.

This event is for special needs children and adults in our area and will be held at the Spring Lake Park ADA accessible fishing dock. This is the 24th year for a day of fishing and fun that none of our participants will soon forget.

Texas Parks & Wildlife, Fire Department, Police Department, Texarkana Challenged Outdoorsmen, and the City of Texarkana, Texas Park & Recreation department is working toward another successful fishing event.

Last year, the 23rd Annual Texarkana Fishing Derby welcomed more than 500 participants from local school districts special education departments, group homes, work activity groups, assisted living homes and individuals. In a festive atmosphere, over 50 volunteers and 30 parks personnel helped the inspired fishers with baiting, hooking, catching and ultimately cleaning the fish to take home. Games, prizes, treats and over 1,000 hotdog meals were cooked and served in a seated picnic area.
