Listen: If someone had asked me what it was that I wanted out of a live show starring a bunch of Marvel Characters, I would've given all the standard answers like big fights and special effects, but I would've also specifically requested that they find a way to throw in dirtbikes and skateboard tricks. I mean, those are my favorite things, but I would know, even as I was asking, that it probably wouldn't happen.
And yet, here we are with a new video about the upcoming Marvel Universe LIVE! arena show, and there are dirtbikes and skateboards. Like, there is actually a halfpipe and a dude straight up doing a Boneless. And, I guess, there's also some cool special effects and a teaser that characters like Captain Marvel and Black Cat will be showing up, but really: dirtbikes and skateboards.
One of the coolest things about Spider-Man is unquestionably his web-shooters, the devices that allow him to swing around the city to fight crime without having to worry about all the questionable anatomy that would be brought up if he produced webs the same way as actual spiders. They're one of his trademarks, to the point where the new The Amazing Spider-Man series of films has reverted back to the idea of mechanical ones, replacing the previous movies' "organic" web-shooters, and they're the kind of thing that it would be really cool to own in real life.
And if you happen to be Patrick Priebe, you actually do. In honor of the release of Amazing Spider-Man 2, Priebe has constructed a homemade version of Spidey's webshooter that can launch fishing line out of a wrist-mounted coil and retract it, triggered by the same motion that Spidey uses in the comics. Also, there is a brass-tipped harpoon pointed directly at his palm that is launched out with a surprising amount of force. That seems like a good idea, right?
I don't think I'm blowing anyone's mind here, but I'm pretty sure that if there's one thing superhero fans love, it's collecting tiny little plastic versions of their favorite characters. It is a universal truth of fandom, and apparently, the folks over at Disney Interactive Studios have finally realized this, and they're capitalizing by introducing Marvel superheroes intoDisney Infinity 2.0, the seeming sequel to their smash hit video game that uses collectible figurines to unlock maps and other content.
As revealed in the new teaser trailer, Captain America (or at least his Mighty Shield) is leading the charge. Check it out below!
I've seen a lot of movies with alternate endings over the years -- like the depressing original finish to Army of Darkness or that bonkers version of Die Hard With a Vengeance where John McClane spins an actual rocket launcher around on a table while riddling Jeremy Irons -- and to be honest, I usually don't think they add much to the film. They're an interesting look into an alternate universe, sure, but I almost always prefer the final product.
Today, however, I saw an alternate opening to last year's smash hit special effects blockbuster Gravity uploaded to YouTube by user Krishna Shenoi, and I have to admit that it changes the entire tone of the film to something I think I'd really like. Check below and see for yourself!
Listen, I've been reading comic books a long time, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that if you want a package to get to its destination safely, the absolute last person you want handling it is Spider-Man. Best case scenario -- best case, mind you -- is that it's going to be crushed when he stops to fight the Rhino. Worst case? Incinerated by a pumpkin bomb and then thrown off a bridge. Just ask Aunt May's last 51 birthday cakes.
And yet, he is the hero that The United States Postal Service has turned to for an ad tying into the upcoming TheAmazing Spider-Man 2, set to hit theaters this summer with more of Spidey's adventures in a universe where people actually use Bing. Check it out below, and be advised there's a special twist ending!
