Best Places to Take Mom on Mother’s Day in Texarkana – Kendra’s Top Five Picks
Most of you know that I’m a mom…..
Here are my kiddo’s, Micah is the oldest, Aaron is the middle child and Eric is my baby.
But did you also know that I’m a Grandma?
Gavin is the oldest and Gage is the baby. Gotta tell ya, being a Grandma is way awesome!
Soooooo….. as Mom to 3 and “Kiki” to 2 I’ve compiled my top 5 picks of where I’d love to be taken on Mother’s Day in no particular order.
#1- Timothy’s Grill
Timothy’s is one of my favorite places! It’s located in Nash, the official address (if you want to GPS it) is 4115 North Kings Hwy. Normally, I would say save this place for a night out with your significant other, but I think it’s a good idea to show your kids what it’s like to dress up to go out to dinner and to let their taste buds experience something new! It’s a win win for so many reasons! First you get to dress up, second you get to eat something besides Hamburger Helper (Cheeseburger Mac was always my fav), and last, you get to show your kids a bit of culture. Pros: The food and atmosphere is unique and amazing. Cons: They are not open on Sunday, so you would need to go before or after Mom’s Day. You can check out their website for menu items and hours of operation www.timothysgrill.com
#2 Genghis Grill
Aaron took me to GG about a month ago and I’ve been back so many times since, I can’t even keep up! I was eating there during that last huge storm we had, even with the electricity popping I was chomping down on my delicious stir fry! Genghis Grill is not only fun, it’s a healthy choice for you and the kids. In case you’ve never been let me give you the run down: After you are seated, they bring you a bowl, you then take that bowl through their line of raw meat and veggies. You pile that bowl as high as you want with whatever meats and veggies and spices that you want (and they have lots to choose from) Then you take your bowl to the grill and tell them what kind of starch you want, like rice (white, brown, fried) or noodles etc. They exchange your bowl for a number and grill it up for you right there. Have a seat and the friendly staff will bring your bowl to you in a flash! I love it! It’s fun and I get exactly what I want because I chose it! I don’t know if you heard but I recently became a vegetarian and there are not a lot of vegetarian options at most places when you go out to eat, but at GG, I can pile my bowl full of delicious veggies with brown rice. I am a huge fan of GG and all my kids know it! ha Did I mention I love this place? You’ll find them in the Texarkana Pavilion off St. Michael Drive right next to Martha’s Hallmark. Here is their website if you want to read more: http://www.genghisgrill.com/ Pros: Delicious and healthy choices. Cons: I can’t think of any!
#3 On the Border
I would never mind the kiddos taking me to OTB because there is something on the menu for all my guys and little guys. It’s colorful so Gage would be fun to watch as he looks at all the different colors splashed everywhere. The servers are always very polite and most importantly…GUACAMOLE LIVE! Ok, if you’re not a fan of guacamole you will not be impressed by this but Guac lovers listen up! They come right to your table with all the delicious ingredients of guacamole and make it fresh…right there at your table! It’s listed as an appetizer but at times I just get that as my meal! It is absolutely wonderful! If you don’t know where they are well just look out your car window while you are at Genghis Grill because they are right behind them. Just off St. Michael Drive in Texarkana. You can see their full menu here On the Border. Pros: Lots of differnt menu items for everyone in the fam. Cons: If you order Guac Live watch the servers face, I don’t think they like making it for ya cuz it is time consuming and they have other tables, ha!
#4 Spring Lake Park
Spring Lake Park is one of my favorite places in Texarkana. It’s just beautiful! And I think it would be neat for my kids to take me on a picnic. Also, there is plenty for the kids to do from the playgrounds to chasing the ducks, and if they bring their skateboards or bikes they can ride the trails. Plus, I’d love to see what kind of food my kids could whip up for a picnic. The park definetly makes the list! In case you aren’t sure where it is, take State Line to Texas Blvd to North 40th then a right on Rio Grande and voila! Pros: It’s beautiful and the kids can play. Cons: Ants!
And last but not least….
#5 Books a Million
I know this one might surprise you because I’m not talking about food! ha! But I love love love to read and can spend hours browsing the books. Plus our BAM has Joe Muggs coffee shop with lots of sweets for the kiddos. I also think it shows the kids and grandkids how important reading is and would give me the chance to share my love of books with them. BAM is definetly a yes on my list! It’s located right in front of Central Mall. Pros: You can get lost in your favorite genre. Cons: Don’t spill hot coffee on the babies!
One final thought on Mother’s Day before I close…
I know they give us one day a year that is supposed to be special just for mom’s, but don’t get disheartened if your plans don’t go just as is on that one day. It’s ok if your kids do something for you the day before or even the month after. I think children should show their mom’s how much they love them all year long. After all, this is the woman that gave them life! Happy Mother’s Day! I love ya! Kendra
