The Bowie County Sheriffs Office in Northeast Texas is warning area residents about a recent phone scam targeting area residents.
We have received notice that someone is using the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and Reserve Deputy Jim Nelson’s name to solicit donations in a scam. Please make the public aware of the following information:
An unknown person has been calling local businesses to solicit donations in the name of the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and using the name Jim Nelson as an endorsement. While Jim Nelson is an active Reserve Deputy for the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, he has not authorized anyone to use his name
The caller is leaving phone numbers of 903.686.0242 or 903.686.2042 to be contacted at. These are Longview, Texas phone numbers, but neither of them are working numbers.
All area residents and businesses need to be aware that this is a scam and they should not give out any information to anyone who calls them under this ruse. The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office never calls anyone to solicit donations and anyone who has a question about validity of someone using the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office name should call us at 903.798.3149 or 911.
