It's unlikely that Brett Eldredge's dog, Edgar, will make a cameo during either of his CMA Country Christmas songs on Monday night (Dec. 10), but the pup won't be far from the singer's heart.

They're very close, which you know if you've followed Eldredge on any of his social media platforms or just watched his music video for "Love Someone." Of course they'll spend the holidays together.

"We got back home to Illinois, which is exciting because he gets to go crazy and run in the country," Eldredge says, speaking to media before performing the pre-recorded CMA Country Christmas special.

Surely the 32-year-old will gift his dog something tasty or playful and Edgar can reciprocate by simply not terrorizing Christmas. That's Eldredge's goal, he says. It has gotten easier over the years.

"You have to hang the bulbs for the tree not as low so he doesn't try to eat them, because he thinks they're tennis balls or something," he confesses. "That was a little bit of a problem at the beginning."

Eldredge performed two songs for the annual ABC special, "A Holly Jolly Christmas" and "Silver Bells." Both are on the newly-released version of his Glow album, a project that has quickly become a country staple. Once again he recorded in New York City in the summer, with a festive studio and a rocks glass of whiskey nearby. He confesses he's got his next studio album on his mind, as well. While he still has time before he needs to have that turned in, he's been busy writing and searching for the one song that will help him shape his record.

CMA Country Christmas airs on ABC at 8PM ET. Reba McEntire returns as host.
