Labor Day weekend is a great time to get together with family. The kids are out of school and you get to skip out on work. But at Cal Farley's, it is also a chance for the children who live there to take the reins and show their friends and family exactly what they've got!

This past weekend, Cal Farley threw open its gates for the Boys Ranch Rodeo + Adventurefest. Between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, every child had the chance to participate in the event every resident at the ranch waits for all year long. This is their chance to show off their skills, whether they ride stick horses, sheep or bucking broncs.

The community came out and joined the kids, their house parents, councilors, teachers and the rest of the staff to celebrate everything Cal and his kids stand for.  As I watched, it was with happy triumph that the kids rode their horses through barrels, jumped over hurdles and dazzled us with all the skills they learned over the past year.

For at-risk kids, Cal Farley's is truly an oasis in the middle of the arid Texas landscape. Located just west of Amarillo, lush green grass blankets the village, a sparkling lake resides at the heart of it, surrounded by living quarters, schools, stadiums and more. Here, children are taught to give up unethical pursuits and transform their lives. Miracles happen every day, and it is amazing to see all that they have done.
