Cathy Hardin, Republican, long-time Miller County resident and current administrative assistant to Warden Jerry Campbell at the Arkansas Community Corrections Center, is running for the office of Miller County Tax Collector.

Cathy was born in Texarkana Arkansas, and graduated from Fouke High School in 1980 and she was a student at Texarkana College.

Cathy's father, Jimmy Hardin, was a longtime Miller County Justice of the Peace and that helped steer her in the direction of public service from a young age.

Hardin made the announcement along with an introduction to her personal life to those that may not be familiar with her service. The announcement was made on the new Facebook Page for her campaign - Cathy Hardin For Miller County Tax Collector -On that page she posted,

I announced today my intention to seek the office of Miller County Tax Collector.

After working for former sheriff H. L. Phillips at the Miller County Sheriff’s Department I developed a strong interest in public service. In my capacity as administrative assistant for Sheriff Phillips I was responsible for the management of all funds collected, deposited and distributed to or from the sheriff’s department, Arkansas Highway Patrol, Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Miller County Correctional Facility.

While living in Camden, AR I was the Chief Probation Officer for the District Court of Ouachita County and the City of Camden for Judge Phil Foster. I was responsible for the collection of all money owed to the city and county for partial payments, fines and probation fees. In addition to Probation Officer I also wrote grants for the city.

I am a licensed real estate agent with Texarkana’s Legacy Group which provides me with knowledge of the county’s property tax procedures. I am a member of the Texarkana, Arkansas and National Real Estate Association.

I believe my experience in the management of money and my dealings with auditors and reporting agencies gives me unique qualifications for the job of tax collector. This coupled with the satisfaction I have gained serving the people of Miller County are my primary reasons for seeking this position.

I am currently employed by the Arkansas Community Corrections as the administrative assistant to Warden Jerry Campbell.

I am married to Joe Ammann, a professional cutting horse trainer and competitor.  I am the mother of three adult children, two of whom still reside in Miller County, my oldest is my daughter, a training officer for Arkansas Community Corrections Texarkana, a son that just completed a tour with the United States Air Force and is currently a reserve, and my youngest son is a volunteer fire fighter. I am the step-mom to three grown children and a grandmother to a beautiful granddaughter. Joe and I attend the Circle J Cowboy Church.

My father, Jimmy Hardin, served as Justice of the Peace for Miller County in District 10, for a number of years. His influence as a parent and that of Sheriff Phillips helped me to see the importance of community involvement and commitment to public service."

Her resume is impeccable, and she seems to be more than qualified for the position and this will make a very interesting election. The primary is election  is set for May.
