Before taking your children to a stranger’s door Halloween night, find out ahead of time whose door you’ll be knocking on with the Texas Department of Public Safety’s new Mobile App, designed to give Texans instant access to the state’s Sex Offender Registry and Texas’ 10 Most Wanted program.

The app is free to download and is available for iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets.

“This app is a dynamic and interactive link between the public and our department,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “Today’s digital age makes it imperative that Texans have easy and immediate access to an array of DPS programs, services and resources – and this app puts that power at their fingertips.”

Key features of the app include:

  • Easy-to-use and interactive maps for searching registered sex offenders by location, name, route and proximity.
  • Detailed information about current Texas’ 10 Most Wanted fugitives and sex offenders, plus the ability to submit tips.
  • Data on recent human trafficking cases based on proximity and location.
  • Ability to report suspicious activity to DPS through the iWatch Texas program.

The app is currently available for iPhone users on the Apple App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/texas-dps/id902092368?mt=8 and for Android users on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microassist.texasdps&hl=en.

To check the sex offender registry in Texarkana, Ark., go to city-data.com/so/so-Texarkana-Arkansas.html. The link not only provides a map of the homes but clicking on the individual link also will provide a photo of each offender.
