Child Taken From Mother And Placed in Foster Care For Being Over 200 Pounds

How sad is this, an 8 year old boy in Ohio was taken into foster care because of his weight. He weighs over 200 pounds! 

Mary Louise Madigan, a spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Family Services said "This child's problem was so severe that we had to take custody"

The agency had been working with the mother for over a year and the child did lose weight but started to gain the the weight back. The case workers considered this a form of medical neglect from the mother.

The mother's lawyers say the county has overreacted because there is not any imminent danger to the boys health.

The mother had been working to get the boys weight down but wonders if genetics are to blame. She also said that boy's friends had been giving him extra food but she put a stop to that.

I know this child needs help, but is this the right action to take? What do you think?
