City Council Expected to Fill Vacant Seat Tonight

The Texarkana, Texas City Council is expected to fill the empty Ward 1 seat at tonight's council meeting.The meeting gets under way at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The council is expected to go into closed executive session and deliberate on who to appoint to the fill the Ward 1 seat. That position has been vacant since the death of Councilmember Bradfield Casteel earlier this month.

Two local citizens have sent in letters of interest to the council. They are Jean Matlock and Howard Banks. Matlock is a federal retiree, substitute teacher and volunteer. Banks is a cosmetologist, deputy grand mason, and evangelist.

Whoever the council chooses will fill the unexpired term which ends in May of next year. The public is invited to attend the open portions of tonight's meeting.

Appointments to Boards & Commissions Appointment of Councilmember Christy P. Paddock to the ATCOG Board. (Replacing Councilmember Dr. Brian Matthews who was appointed to the Electrical Board to fill the vacancy left by Councilmember Bradfield Casteel.)

The City Council will convene in closed session pursuant to Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code to deliberate the appointment of a public officer to fill a vacancy in council membership (Ward 1 Councilmember with an unexpired term ending May 2016) and interviewing persons for that appointment.
