David Ragan Wins the Aaron’s 499 with a Controversial Finish [VIDEO]

Sunday at Talladega it was the Aaron’s 499 and after rain delays, and a couple of “big ones” David Ragan in the number 34 car got the checkered flag. However, some are questioning the final restart.

Front Row Motorsports had never gotten a Sprint Cup win, but Sunday their cars finished one and two. David Gilliland pushed teammate David Ragan to the front on the final lap of a green and white finish at Talladega Super Speedway. There are some pretty upset people about the final restart though that casts a shadow on this victory. Apparently there is some questions as to whether or not Ragan may have re-started illegally, by moving into lane 3 and advancing before the green flag dropped.

Brad Keselowski started a firestorm on twitter with these posts,

ESPN’s Marty Smith took to Twitter to give NASCAR’s side of the story claiming that Keselowski was actually in the wrong position.

A number of drivers are upset with the finish of the Aaron’s 499, some question if the race should even have been re-started at all after a late race thunderstorm crossed the track… Here’s a report with more on the controversy…

The race had two “big ones”, the second “big one” sent the race into overtime and to near darkness. In fact, NASCAR gave teams the option of changing their visors from tinted to clear on that final caution. David Ragan got the win followed by teammate David Gilliland in second, Carl Edwards third, Michael Waltrip fourth, and series points leader Jimmie Johnson finished fifth. Next up is Darlington Raceway, the track too tough to tame. It will be another short track blowout with the Bojangles Southern 500 Saturday night under the lights. Television coverage is on Fox beginning at 6:00 p.m. Central.
