Demi Lovato is remembering the victims from Sandy Hook Elementary this holiday season. The pop singer and 'X Factor' judge turned in a beautiful and soulful cover of Alabama's 'Angels Among Us,' which she released on Christmas Eve in honor of the nearly 30 Newtown, Conn. innocents who were gunned down -- most of them under the age of 7.

It was a tragedy that shook the nation to its very core, but Lovato's cover of Alabama's song is certainly a soothing salve in a time of heartbreak. Music is redemptive, and this is certainly one of those cases.

The following text appeared on screen before Lovato performed:

We can never imagine what the families in Newtown, CT are experiencing right now. And while there is nothing we can do to replace their loss, we can stand together and support them during this difficult time. This song is in honor of those angels we lost on December 14.

The performance certainly demonstrates the power of music, as well as how a classic country ballad can be translated by a pop singer and still have the same effect. It's a testament to the power of solid songwriting when it is able to be interpreted by a different artist as easily as it touches hearts.
