No injuries reported at Texarkana College after an altercation occurred, which also included an individual in possession of a firearm.

According to a news release from the coolege, at approximately 8:50 a.m. today, an altercation occurred on the Texarkana College campus. TC administrators immediately reported the incident to the TC campus police, who responded to the situation within two minutes.  A suspect, who is a TC student, is in custody and there is no threat to the campus. Two firearms were found in the possession of this subject.  The subject did hold a valid license to carry permit.  It is alleged that the subject displayed the firearm at some point during the altercation which is not allowed under the license to carry.  The suspect is being transported to the Bi-State Justice Building for processing. The details of the altercation are still under investigation. There is no threat to the safety and security of the campus or TC students at this time.

TC students were on campus at the time of the incident. A witness has come forward to help with identification and details. According to campus officials, TC students, faculty and staff responded to a threatening situation in a very positive and efficient way by reporting what they saw. TC administration encourages members of the TC community to always report any suspicious activity immediately to TC police and to remain aware of their surroundings at all times. College officials say students, citizens, TC administration, faculty, staff, and TC police department are to be commended for their actions.  Suspicious behavior was observed and the proper notifications were made. Immediately reporting this suspicious behavior enabled the TC police to respond and handle the situation in a matter of minutes before this situation escalated.
