Does Your Pooch Have What it Takes to win the Hambone Award??

The Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. of California presents.. the 2011 VPI Hambone Award nominees!

Inundated by so many bizarre pet insurance claims, VPI came up with the Hambone awards to spotlight the craziest of the craziest. Past winners of this, not so coveted but funny, award include Ellie, a Labrador retriever who gobbled up an entire beehive and its thousands of inhabitants and Lulu, a hungry bulldog who swallowed 15 pacifiers, a bottle cap and a piece of basketball.

The Hambone award was named for a dog that ate an entire Thanksgiving ham while stuck in a refridgerator.

This years nominees include:

• Chico the Chihuahua, who found himself in a tug of war with a Great Horned Owl after it lifted him off the ground via his leash.

• Harley the Pug ate 100 rocks while his owner was away.
