Texas A&M University-Texarkana will  hold an information session for those interested in Eagles Teach ALT program on February 15.

The session will be from 4:30-6:30 PM inside the Eagle Hall at the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus.

Alternative certification programs like Eagles Teach are designed for those with a bachelor’s degree and are for people that want a fast track to certification.  A&M–Texarkana’s alternative program is in its fifteenth year and has certified hundreds of teachers for area schools.  Participants are certified in 14 months through course work and a paid internship as a first-year teacher in a school district or a student teaching experience.  Participants earn graduate level credit and often have only a few more courses to earn a Master’s degree beyond certification.

Texas A&M University-Texarkana will be accepting applications for its university-based alternative certification program, Eagles Teach ALT, to begin in the summer session starting June 4th. The application period is open April 1st-30th.  Those admitted can be considered for hire for fall 2018 in Texas area schools.

“Even though applications are accepted in April, there are things applicants can do now to prepare for admission,” states Deb Shidemantle, Director of Teacher Preparation at A&M-Texarkana. “For example, applicants must pass a subject-area state test before they can be admitted to the program.”

Eagles Teach ALT participants benefit from online and face-to-face instruction facilitated by university professors experienced in teaching in public schools and who work closely with school districts in the region.

“Our instructors go above and beyond for each teacher candidate,” says Sara Lawrence, Associate Dean for College of Arts, Sciences, and Education at A&M-Texarkana. “The A&M System has a long history of preparing top-notch educators. We are proud of our history and take our responsibility to prepare quality teachers seriously.”
