Nothing beats a good firework show whether you are watching one or blasting your own fireworks from the backyard. Some of the best firework shows I've observed was when I lived in Hot Springs, Ark. There is something magical and awe inspiring about watching the fireworks from a boat on the lake. The reflection of the fireworks in the water sort of gives in a 3D effect and enhances everything around you. There will be several displays in Hot Springs to choose this 4th of July holiday including a fireworks show at Magic Springs Water and Theme Park July 4 with a family SplashDance at Crystal Lagoon starting at dusk.

Here's some other great firework displays in and around the Spa city.

  • Hot Springs hosts an array of fireworks displays beginning the 3rd of July with Oaklawn's Spa Blast on Oaklawn's Infield.
  • Mountain Harbor Resort at Lake Quachita is set to put on another great show this year, with the date to be announced.
  • Wrapping the week up is Power Boats and their impressive fireworks show on the 6th of July at the Hwy 7 South Bridge.

Just down the road at nearby Lake DeGray, celebrate America's birthday with the annual DeGray Lake fireworks show brought to you by DeGray Lake Resort State Park, Iron Mountain Marina and Resort, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Caddo Valley and Arkadelphia Volunteer Fire Departments and your donations.

This spectacular show cascades over beautiful DeGray Lake and is made even more magical by the myriad of red, green, and white lights of boats on the lake. This is a family friendly event. Bring lawn chairs and snacks to fully enjoy the show. If you choose to watch the show from the lodge lawn you can take advantage of grilled burgers and dogs being served on the lawn. This spectacular show is produced entirely by donations and volunteers. And best of all it's FREE.

Either location is less than a two hour drive from Texarkana, a great place to take the family for the day to swim, picnic, and then enjoy the fireworks.  So, wherever you choose to watch or do fireworks this year just be careful and have a Happy Fourth of July!

Check out this video of synchronized fireworks as done by a simulator--kind of cool.
