The first Green Texarkana Recycling Event for the new year will be this Saturday, January 9, in Texarkana, Ark.

Paper, cardboard and plastic will be accepted at this event, and those materials can be mixed together. Other items that will be accepted, but should be separated, are electronics, ink cartridges, small metal like steel and aluminum cans, and plastic film such as grocery bags.

Waste left over from the holidays including gift boxes, wrapping paper, cookie and popcorn tins will also be accepted.

Christmas trees will not be accepted. Green Texarkana, also cannot accept glass, Styrofoam, tires, furniture or hazardous materials including fluorescent lights (CFLs). Residents wanting more information about the City’s CFL recycling program can call 870-779-4946.

Green Texarkana takes place from 8AM and 1PM Saturday at East Third and Hazel Streets. Residents must wait to bring their items until volunteers arrive at 8AM Saturday. Bringing items prior to this time and leaving them in the parking lot is considered littering.
