Frank Foster kicks off the 109th State Fair of Louisiana this Saturday, October 24. More than 25 bands are scheduled to perform at the fair this year. Lainey Wilson will be the opening act starting at 7PM. All concerts at the fair are free with paid gate admission.

Foster was born and raised in north Louisiana about halfway between Haynesville and Summerfield in a little place called Cypress Bottom. He began working in the Gulf of Mexico on an oil rig, but his love for music kept calling him. His father turned him on to Hank Williams when he was very young. As he grew a little older, his taste in music expanded through several genres, but outlaw country and southern rock became his favorites – especially when he was given his first Hank Williams, Jr. album. Frank calls him his greatest musical influence, along with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Earle, Marshall Tucker, the Allman Brothers, and Black Crowes.

Frank began playing guitar during his junior year of college, an experience that he says “changed his life.” Shortly after, he wrote his first song and has been writing and singing since. He has released three independent albums: Rowdy Reputation in 2011, Red Wings and Six Strings in 2012 and Southern Soul in 2013.

Southern Soul sold 6,000 copies in its first week of release, debuting at number 11 on the Billboard Top Country albums chart and number 67 on the Billboard 200. On July 3, 2014, Frank announced the launch of his own record label, Lone Chief Records. His current album Rhythm & Whiskey is available on iTunes, AmazonMP3 and Google Play.

I've always been a fan of Frank Foster and I think once you see him you will become a fan, too. He is an incredible musician with a sound that represents today's new country with a little attitude and rowdiness thrown in for good measure. If you like Hank Williams Jr. you're going to love Frank Foster.
