Is it just me or does it seem like there are more rude people in the world these days than there use to be? Maybe that's not the case, maybe the rude people just stand out more, but it seems like no matter where you go you run into fewer and fewer people who exercise common decency and politeness.

I can deal with rude people that you run into at the store, a ball game, etc. There's nothing you can do about them but ignore them. But, I've decided that I refuse to tolerate employees of places I spend my hard earned money at being rude to me or my family. Life is too short to be treated that way.

So far, there are two local businesses on my boycott list. I won't list the names, but one is a convenient store close to the radio station and the other is a fast food restaurant close to where I live. I'm not boycotting these businesses for the rudeness of just one employee, but multiple instances where either my wife or I were treated rudely. I've made sure to let them know about it too and all of my friends know I'm boycotting these businesses and why.

Maybe, just maybe, if enough people would stand up and say "enough is enough", businesses will be forced to do a better job of making sure their employees understand that consumers (ie. WE) are what allows them to stay in business and pay their employees pay checks. We as consumers should DEMAND that we are treated with respect from these establishments. The reason this continues to happen is because not enough of us will stand up and say we're fed up. We don't owe these businesses anything. It's up to them to provide us a service and think enough of our patronage that they can at least smile and say "thank you" after we make a purchase.

Have you had a bad experience with a local business lately? Let them know about it! (if they're a national chain, let their nation or regional headquarters know!). Together, maybe we can reserve the rudeness trend!
