In celebration of Les Paul's birthday last week, Google created a Les Paul Doodle for its front page which allowed visitors to pluck a few strings on a virtual Les Paul guitar. According to the folks at Extreme Tech, the doodle broke all kinds of wasteful records...

Google visitors spent over 10.7 million hours playing with the doodle  (I have to admit.. I probably spent 10 minutes playing with it myself) , which adds up to $268 million in lost productivity for employers around the world. In addition, considering the amount of computer power needed to make the doodle work, it also cost the world money in lost electricity.

Here's the good news... Google has created a permanent home for the Les Paul doodle. So, if you need me.. I'll be trying to pick out "Stairway to Heaven" on it.
