The Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation, sponsored by Arkansas Urology, hosted a news conference last week to kick off September’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and launch the annual Blue Ribbon Campaign, aimed to bring further awareness and education about prostate cancer.

According to a press release, speaking on behalf of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation was Beverlyn Eckert, executive director of the foundation. Dr. Timothy Goodson, physician at Arkansas Urology, spoke on the importance of early detection of prostate cancer and preventative screening, along with the importance of increased awareness of the disease. A representative from Governor Asa Hutchinson’s office read the proclamation, which declared September as Arkansas Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

This proclamation, coupled with the Blue Ribbon Campaign, brings a month of free screenings and awareness events across the state. This includes free men’s health screenings hosted by Arkansas Urology in September at both their Little Rock and North Little Rock clinic locations. Also in attendance at the news conference were Blue Ribbon Campaign participants and members of local high school football teams from Arkansas.
