Extreme heat is expected in several parts of Texas today and may continue through Sunday in some areas, the National Weather Service has warned. The extreme weather creates conditions in which heat-related illnesses are possible.

Texans in affected areas are being asked to drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun, check up on relatives and neighbors particularly those who are elderly or have a disability, and stay in air-conditioned rooms.
Hurricane Harvey survivors living in FEMA-provided housing units should immediately call the Maintenance Switchboard Call Center, 877-503-6053, if they experience issues with their air-conditioning or other equipment in their unit.
Survivors must not attempt to repair the unit or its equipment themselves or allow outside personnel to attempt to fix them. Performing unauthorized repairs is a violation of the license agreement signed by survivors when they moved into their unit.
