You've probably heard by now that there is a good chance that the Downtown Texarkana Post Office is moving. Looks like it will really happen, but it's never too late to show our support and keep the post office right where it is and has been for 127 years..

Yes, it's true that the post office downtown is supposed to move out of the federal building. Why? To make room for more federal courtrooms in the building. The problem I have with this is losing some of Texarkana's history. This is the only post office in the United States that straddles two states. I was told that even before the current building was there that the location was still home to the Texarkana post office.

I find it really sad to see how quick society is to tear down the old and build anew. You know what? All that sparkle and newness isn't always what it's cracked up to be.  We need to preserve our history and that includes our post office. Have you ever been in the post office downtown? It has very old and super cool looking P.O. boxes. When you go in you definitely take a trip back to another time.

Having the post office in this building is unique to Texarkana. Why can't the federal courts move somewhere else?  The post office was there first. I had heard that the mayors on both sides of Texarkana wanted it to stay in its current location. Maybe there wasn't enough of a public outcry from us. A lot of people didn't even know that this was going on.

This was our "Question of the Day" this morning and it seems that overwhelmingly people want our post office to stay right where it is.
