Four interchanges along Interstate 30 in Bowie County will have improvements made to lighting systems during the coming year, according to plans approved in June by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“The current nighttime lighting at the interchanges will be replaced with more efficient LED lighting and/or high-mast lighting systems that will better illuminate the intersections,” said Rebecca Wells, district traffic engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta. “The LED lights are brighter and more cost efficient than the present lighting and the high-mast lighting, which is also LED, illuminates larger areas," according tp a press release.

Interchanges on I-30 scheduled for high-mast lighting and LED lighting systems are at US 82 and State Highway 8 near New Boston and Farm-to-Market Roads 1398 and 2253 near Leary.

South Texas Illumination of Winona, Texas was awarded the contract for these traffic control projects with a bid of $643,826. Work on the projects should begin in September and take about seven months to complete, Wells said.
