As I continue my search for family, fun-filled holiday places to visit nearby, I've discovered you can go ice skating and visit the Christmas Village in Shreveport. Thanks to Summer Grove Baptist Church, they have turned a part of their parking lot into an ice rink. The event is named "Southern Lights" and starts this Friday, Dec 4 and runs through Dec, 22, 2015.

This is the area’s first-ever Ice Skating Rink and Christmas Village. The massive 102′ X 52′ rink will be placed in their parking lot, visible from LA-3132, and will offer the community the time-honored Christmas tradition of ice-skating in a safe and family friendly environment. In addition to the Ice Skating Rink,  a portion of their church building will be transformed into a Christmas Village. The Village will offer children the opportunity to create wonderful Christmas crafts for free, enjoy bounce houses, and watch a Christmas movie in our Summer Grove Movie Theater.

Admission to the Christmas Village is free, however to Ice skate there is a $10 fee and everyone must sign a waiver before entering the rink. Registration, waivers and wristbands will be located inside the Christmas village.

Concessions will be available each night of the event and food trucks will also be on hand selling food and drinks. And to add to your experience there will be live music provided throughout the month. Many local schools will be bringing their choral ensembles or concert bands to perform. Summer Grove wants everyone to have good clean fun and is providing security during this event.
