Looking for something memorable to do this Mother's Day weekend then travel to Little Rock, Arkansas for the Illuminate the Cure: A Mother’s Day Celebration this Sunday, May 12 for the Arkansas chapter Susan G. Komen foundation. The illumination will take place on the Big Dam Bridge where the bridge will be lit in special pink lights and hundreds of lanterns will float away into the sunset over the Arkansas river.

Lantern pick up and purchase (while supplies last) will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Little Rock and North Little Rock sides of the Big Dam Bridge. The lanterns will be lit and released at 7:30 p.m. All floating lanterns are biodegradable and flame retardant.

A limited number of Illuminate the Cure lanterns may still be purchased for $25 each at komenarkansas.org. One lantern gives two people access onto the bridge. Families are encouraged to purchase more than one lantern. Children under five are free. Lanterns will also be available for purchase at the event beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Illuminate the Cure shuttle service will begin running at 6 p.m., with pick-up stations at Murray Park pavilions in Little Rock and Cook’s Landing in North Little Rock. They will run for one hour after the conclusion of the event. In the event of inclement weather, Illuminate the Cure will be rescheduled for Monday, May 13.

The Arkansas Affiliate joins more than 100,000 breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer.
