Highway Department officials from both Arkansas and Louisiana say Interstate 49 from Texrkana to Shreveport should be complete by the middle of next year.Weather permitting the little over 36 mile stretch of interstate from the Arkansas stateline to Interstate 220 in Shreveport should be finished during the summer of 2014.

The completion of the project will allow for faster and safer travel between the two biggest cities in the Ark-La-Tex. After this is completed, the only section left to be built of I-49 will be the stretch from Texarkana north to Ft. Smith Arkansas.

The interstate highway will someday stretch uninterrupted from South Louisiana to Kansas City Missouri.
