June 19 is Eat an Oreo Day! Why a special day for the Oreo Cookie? Well, I'm not really sure. There is no specific day listed as to when Oreo cookies were first invented, but does there really need to be a reason for this special day?

Oreo cookies have been around since 1912! It's hard to find someone that didn't grow up with the cookie.

Where did the name come from? There are several theories:

Some believe that the name comes from the French word for the color of the packaging, which was gold. The French word for gold is "or". Others say that in the test runs of the production, there were mountains of cookies baked and tasted. They say that the name came from these mountains of cookies and the Greek word for mountain, which is "oreo." Still others claim that the name is a combination of letters from the two words, "cream" and 'chocolate."

One thing is for sure, we all have a special way of eating an Oreo cookie!
