It’s Official! Keith Urban Named an American Idol Judge! [AUDIO] [POLL]

We figured it was just a matter of time! Yesterday it was announced that yes, Keith Urban is a judge on American Idol. He reported to work yesterday.

Ryan Seacrest tweeted the news Sunday morning. Last week we found out that Keith had quit the Australian version of "The Voice" due to a busy schedule with a new album to promote and "other commitments." As we all suspected and hoped, the "other commitments" did turn out to be an Idol judge's seat!

Yesterday CMT reported:
The new four-person panel will start their new positions today (9/16), as auditions begin in New York City. Other audition cities include Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, San Antonio, Baton Rouge and Oklahoma City.

Here's what he had to say about his new gig:

I am so happy that he has accepted this position! A country artist is so desperately needed on the panel! Wow, looks like I'll be watching A.I. again!

Keith joins Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson on the judging panel.
We have a long wait to see Keith as a judge, American Idol premieres in January.
