Several overpasses near New Boston Texas in Bowie County are closed this morning after an oversized load traveling eastbound on Interstate 30 struck the FM 993 and the Red Bayou Road overpasses causing damage to both structures. I-30 Traffic was reduced to one lane for a number of hours while damage assessments were made and debris was cleared.
Further information about the road closures and extent of damage will be released by the Texas Highway Department later today.
A Texarkana, Arkansas Police officer is being heralded as a hero after pulling an elderly woman from a burning home. Officer Peyton Harris responded to the home in the 4700 Block of Markwood Street. The house was engulfed and family members were outside coughing from the smoke and screaming that their grandmother was trapped inside and pointed to a window.
Officer Harris saw the woman inside, unable to get past the flames and climb to safety. He called for help from a neighbor and together they managed to pull the woman out of the burning home.
Texarkana, Arkansas Police have arrested a homeless man after he allegedly held up a downtown business with an air pellet pistol. The Special Operations Section of the police department took information from the employee at the Cuff and Collar at 301 East Broad Street and quickly located the suspect 31 year old Kristan Williams in the 300 block of Walnut street. No injuries were reported.
The talks over the Texas Redistricting Map have collapsed which means a Federal Court will likely draft the state’s political maps and set a new primary date. A hearing is slated for next week. The Primary has already been delayed from March to April and will likely be put off again.
