Five-year-old Ava Schipke wanted three things for her birthday: a Barbie mermaid doll, a Doc McStuffins doctor kit and a phone call from Jake Owen. Thanks to Twitter, she got all three -- even though one was far-fetched.

The Tupelo, Miss. pre-schooler's mother, Kristy, began her Tuesday (Nov. 13) by tweeting about her daughter's disappointing day. "Today my daughter Ava turned 5. Found her crying and I asked why. She said her boyfriend @jakeowen forgot to call her," she said.

As Schipke told Taste of Country, she told her little girl that she should expect a call from grandma, but that Ava "was more concerned that her boyfriend Jake Owen had not called her."

But Owen saw the tweet. And he called.

"And now the bar is set high for Christmas, because after he called her for her birthday, she wants to see him at Christmas," Mom added, laughing.

Schipke explained that both Ava and her 2-year-old sister Audrey begin each day by singing their favorite song, 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night.' It's a tradition they've shared for over a year.

The special five-minute birthday phone call ended with Owen singing his hit song with Ava. "A lot of it was spent with her smiling at me and her eyes as big as saucers because she couldn't believe she was actually talking to him," Schipke says.

After hanging up, Ava couldn't wait to tell all her friends at school that Owen had called to wish her happy birthday, and as Mom says, "and that she's gonna see him at Christmas -- although, he has no idea about that."
