Kane Brown had a close relationship with his great-grandfather, who inspired several of his songs including "Granddaddy's Chair" and "Cold Spot"—the latter of which he penned the day his Papa died. While his great-grandfather passed away in 2016, he lives on in Brown's music, as well as his old jacket which was gifted to the singer.

Brown recently wore that very jacket on stage in concert for the first time, and shared the image on Instagram. In one shot, Brown is seen singing for a crowd of adoring fans with the venue lit-up in cell phone lights. "Dream big plus wear my pops jacket," he captions the image.

In another photo, Brown shares an image of his great-grandfather beaming while holding up the jacket.

"This was my papas jacket back when he owned the cold spot," Brown writes. "I wrote a song about it and he passed away the same day. I got his jacket about a year later and last night was the first time I wore it...... I felt like he was with me."

“Cold Spot,” is one of the more traditional songs on Brown's self-titled debut album, released in 2016. He previously told Taste of Country that he started writing the song in June 2016, but finished in late September on the day his great-grandfather died. The title "Cold Spot" is the name of the store Brown’s Papa ran until Walmart put him out of business.

"Back in the day, there were no interstates and no Walmarts, no Targets in the area, so his store killed," Brown recalled recently during a performance at the 2018 Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. "He sold everything from crickets to worms to minnows. You got your deer license there. You couldn’t get beer in Georgia on Sundays, but if you knew my Papa, you could. He was just a cool-ass granddad.”
