Thursday, Sept. 8,  will mark the start of the 93nd campaign season kick-off for the United Way of Greater Texarkana. The event will be held at Christus St. Michael Health System in the dining room atrium at 5:30PM.

Arkansas side Mayor Ruth Penney Bell and Texas side Mayor Bob Bruggeman will be on hand as the new campaign video is released. The United Way added three new agencies and programs this past community impact session. The additional community support received from last year’s campaign will help fund these programs.

Health, education and financial guidance are the three primary focus areas awarded. An emphasis is placed on long term solutions versus short-term fixes, sustainable life altering improvements aimed at improving the overall quality of life. The United Way serves zip codes in nine different counties officially, but our reach is much larger.

The 2017 campaign goal is $900,000 and last year the campaign was up over 11 percent over the previous year but we still fell short of the $900,000 goal.

Glen Boles and Laura Bower of Christus St. Michael Health System are this year’s campaign co-chairs.
