The drought continues to worsen in Arkansas making the fire danger extremely high.The U.S. Drought Monitor's updated map shows that 44% of the Natural State is in exceptional drought, the most extreme of four categories of dryness. Last week just 345 of Arkansas was considered to be in exceptional drought.

The month-long forecast for August shows Arkansas is expected to receive below normal rainfall and the seasonal outlook through the end of October also forecasts the drought to persist or worsen for the state and a large portion of the country.
