Lauren Alaina Pumped for ‘Idol’ Reboot
Lauren Alaina may be a little biased, but she says she’s pumped for American Idol to return to television. As an alum of the vocal competition, Alaina says she owes her career to the franchise and was “super excited” to hear the news that it’s coming back in 2018.
“I was bummed when they canceled the show because I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you guys without that show. I may have found a way to do it, but it probably would have taken me longer and been a completely different path,” she says (quote via Sounds Like Nashville). “So it’s exciting for me for the talented people around the country that may be from a town like Rossville, Georgia, and not know the right steps to take to make their dreams come true.”
Plus, she’s got a little more selfish reason. “It’s my favorite T.V. show, so I’m not mad about it,” she adds.

Alaina is actually considering auditioning for the show all over again in a rouse designed to get her face-to-face with one of her own idols: Katy Perry. “You don’t understand my obsession with her. It is next level. I’m literally … I may dress up as a different human and audition just so I can meet her,” she jokes.
American Idol is being resurrected on ABC next year — two years after wrapping its final season on Fox in 2016. Alaina came in second place on American Idol Season 10 (to buddy and fellow country artist Scotty McCreery) at the age of 16. Since then she has released two full-length albums — Wildflower in 2011 and Road Less Traveled, which dropped in January 2017. The title track from the 2017 release earned Alaina her first No. 1 single.
