You may say what do you mean local baseball players are lucky? What I mean is the area talent is fortunate to have to have top notch coaching from experienced and caring head coaches and their staffs. The local list over just the past number of years is impressive.

At Texas High, Glenn Welch retired in the past few years after guiding the Tigers to a number of playoff wins including a state championship .

Liberty-Eylau has been under the leadership of Tom Middlebrooks, whose Leopards won a state championship earlier when he coached his son at school.

And of course Craig Jones is in the middle of his run at Pleasant Grove where he brought a state championship back for the Hawks just a couple of years ago. P-G is currently a yearly contender to go state.

The effort to help area players become their best goes beyond their work with the high school athletes. Both Middlebrooks and Jones have yearly baseball camps for players of all ages, with the L-E camp in the spring and the PG camp in the early summer.

Kids are indeed lucky to benefit from the sharing given by these talented coaches and their staffs.
