I don't think I'm blowing anyone's mind here, but I'm pretty sure that if there's one thing superhero fans love, it's collecting tiny little plastic versions of their favorite characters. It is a universal truth of fandom, and apparently, the folks over at Disney Interactive Studios have finally realized this, and they're capitalizing by introducing Marvel superheroes into Disney Infinity 2.0, the seeming sequel to their smash hit video game that uses collectible figurines to unlock maps and other content.

As revealed in the new teaser trailer, Captain America (or at least his Mighty Shield) is leading the charge. Check it out below!

If you haven't played Disney Infinity, the basic idea is that you use the figures to unlock characters and content in the game itself, teaming up different characters from across Disney franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean or The Incredibles or Toy Story. Once you've unlocked the characters, you can then use them to... run... around... and do stuff.

Listen, I'll be honest with you: I haven't played it, mostly because it doesn't have Bulbasaur, Dracula or the Third Street Saints. But, if you're telling me that I can finally have Spider-Man crawling all over Scrooge McDuck's Money Bin, then that's a better selling point than just about any other game.

It's also worth noting that one of the really neat things about Infinity -- both the game itself and the figures -- is that they've all been adjusted to fit a certain aesthetic, so that Johnny Depp's live-action Captain Jack Sparrow looks like he should be standing next to, say, Buzz Lightyear. It'll be interesting to see how the Marvel characters, who have so many distinct design elements across comics, movies and TV, fit into that style, and which versions they go with for the "definitive" look in the game.
