The town of Lindale, Texas is recovering from strong storms and tornadoes that ripped through the area over the weekend. The mayor of Miranda Lambert’s hometown has declared Lindale to be a state of disaster.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down around 3:30PM on Saturday (Dec. 12). It was later determined to be an EF-2. USA Today reports that six to eight homes sustained major damage, while 30 to 35 others were less damaged. About 5,000 people are estimated to live in Lindale, a town about 90 miles southeast of Dallas.

The Lindale twister was one of three tornadoes that came through the Lone Star State — there was significant property damange in Willis, Texas as well. Local authorities say there have not been any injuries associated with the storms.

"We have received a number of calls and walk-in volunteers who wish to help," Mayor Robert Nelson explains (quote via KLTV-TV). "While we appreciate the support for our community, right now we ask for thoughts and prayers for those affected. We ask that the general public to stay away from the area until a plan is developed.”

Lambert was raised in Lindale and still has strong ties to the area. In 2013 she opened a the Pink Pistol, a gift shop and wine bar in the town. Just four weeks ago the town helped her celebrate her 32nd birthday.
