The Texarkana, Texas Police Department investigated a non-injury motor vehicle crash involving a school bus carrying Texas High students this morning.

Texarkana, Texas Independent School District spokesperson Tina Veal-Gooch said the bus was a Bowie County Transportation Bus and the driver is not a T.I.S.D. staff driver and the bus is not a district-owned bus.

Officers responded to the report of the crash near the intersection of Summerhill Road and New Boston Road at 8:09 this morning.

The investigation revealed that the school bus, driven by Evleylee Browner, 48, of Ozan, Arkansas, was westbound on New Boston Road and had stopped for the traffic signal at Summerhill Road.  A Ford F-150 truck was also westbound on New Boston Road behind the bus. Unable to stop after seeing the stopped bus, the truck struck the bus in the rear.  The truck’s driver, Joel McCorkle, 27, of Texarkana, Ark., was cited for Failure to Control Speed.

There were 27 students on the school bus, none of which reported any injuries. After a short period of time, the students loaded a second bus and continued to school.

The school bus suffered only minor damage. The Ford F-150 was disabled and had to be towed from the scene.
