Red Cross Shelters Are in Place in North And East Texas
Tropical Storm Isaac has been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane. At this time, Red Cross shelters that are in place in North and East Texas will remain open and ready to comfort those travelers in need through at least noon tomorrow.
In addition, a Disaster Relief Operation (DRO) Orientation will be held in Texarkana this evening at 5:15 p.m. in the Chapter office located at 821 Spruce Street. This is an opportunity to learn of developments and Red Cross activities over the past 48 hours and preparation plans for the coming hours. Also, this is an opportunity to learn where and how you can help as a Red Cross volunteer.
According to Red Cross officials the TXDOT highway signs. Signs within the DFW, Tyler and Texarkana areas are flashing the following message: “For Tropical Storm Isaac Shelter Information Call 211”. When a resident calls 211 they are forwarded to a live call agent who will provide them with information regarding the shelter closest to their location.
