Arkansas State Representative Mary "Prissy" Hickerson has been appointed to the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Board of Visitors.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the UofA Hope-Texarkana Board of Visitors, and I will do everything I can to help the college provide higher education to Texarkana and the Southwest Arkansas region,” said Representative Hickerson. “The college has been a wonderful asset to southwest Arkansas for many years and is particularly one of the best additions to Texarkana, Ark., in many years.”

Rep. Hickerson of Texarkana is serving her third term in the Arkansas House of Representatives. She represents District 1, which includes part of Miller County. She will be retiring from the General Assembly at the end of this calendar year.

Rep. Hickerson graduated from Arkansas High School in Texarkana, and Watkins Business Institute in Nashville, Tenn  She also attended the University of Tennessee in Nashville.  Before serving in the House, Rep. Hickerson served 10 years on the Arkansas State Highway Commission. She has also been a member of the Arkansas Good Roads and Transportation Council, a board member for Christus St. Michael Health Systems, and for Texarkana Resources for the Disabled.

Chris Thomason, Chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana, said, “Representative Hickerson has served our region and Arkansas with great distinction as a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives for District 1 since 2011. During her service, she has been a tireless champion of the work of our campus to improve access to education and workforce training.

“She was a central force behind the creation and development of UofA Texarkana, and she continues to be a strong community advocate for both our campuses and the University of Arkansas System throughout the region and state," Thomason added.
