The annual Shop with a Cop event took place this morning (Dec. 5) with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. Kicker 102.5 was part of a huge convoy of police cars and firetrucks with sirens blaring and lights flashing make their way from in front of the Bi-State Justice Center, down State Line Ave., to the Arkansas side Walmart.

After arriving to a line of children in the store, each officer was handed a $100 bill to take a child on a shopping spree. Many of the kids took photos with Santa while waiting for an officer to take them shopping. I had a chance to talk with Cpl. Kristi Bennett prior to the event about what the Shop with a Cop program is about.

With so many negative comments made about police officers these days, it makes it really special and worth recognition, when our local police and firefighters join forces to help kids in our community have a very Merry Christmas.

Next Up: Cops and Kids

On Tuesday, December 12th, 2017 at 6PM, the annual Cops and Kids meal has been scheduled at the Four States Fairgrounds. Police Officers of the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department will meet at the station at 5PM and form two convoys, one parade formation will travel to The Texarkana Baptist Orphanage and the other to The Watersprings Ranch. The children will ride with a Police Officer in a Patrol Car, with lights and sirens, to the Fairgrounds.

The Annual Shop with a Cop program and Cops and Kids program is a spirit of fellowship that takes place during the holiday season and reinforces the positive aspects of community and Police relationships.
