CBS ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Sets September Premiere, Split Season

Star Trek Discovery Premiere CBS September
CBS

We’ve waited patiently for months, and CBS is finally rewarding us with a discovery. Star Trek: Discovery, that is, as the network at last confirms a September premiere date for the new TV iteration, along with word of a divided run.

CBS announced that the premiere installment of Discovery will air Sunday, September 24 at 8:30 P.M. Immediately after the on-air premiere, a second episode will become available to stream on CBS All-Access, though it seems only the first eight episodes will debut through November 5. The final seven episodes will resume weekly CBS All-Access debuts in January 2018.

Check out the brief new teaser:

Featuring Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, Star Trek: Discovery has among the cast Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Doug Jones as an alien science officer, Adam Rapp as the TV franchise’s first openly-gay character and Michelle Yeoh as Captain of a different ship, along with assorted crew and several Klingon roles. Ex-showrunner Bryan Fuller also previously stepped up to clarify his limited involvement in the project going forward.

Shooting primarily in Toronto, the new 15-episode Star Trek: Discovery is said to take place 10 years before Kirk’s original Enterprise mission, as well to be “heavily serialized.” The new series will also explore the fallout of an event referenced, but never seen in the original series. Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer has also joined the creative side along with Gene Roddenberry’s son Rod, fan-favorite Voyager novel alum Kirsten Beyer, franchise vet Joe Menosky and Heroes writer Aron Coleite.

Star Trek: Discovery will hopefully deliver more at Comic-Con, but watch the first trailer below while we wait.
