A new study shows that men who open doors for women or give their coat to a woman because she's cold aren't really gentleman.

They are sexist and holding us down. What?

According to the Washington Post:

Benevolent sexism makes men more smiley when they interact with women, and that's bad news. Men who put women on a pedestal may be the wolves in sheep clothing hindering gender equality.

A new study examining the nonverbal cues thrown out during interactions between men and women finds that men who have high ratings of "benevolent sexism" — attitudes towards women that are well-intentioned but perpetuate inequality — finds that smiling and other positive cues increase when this kind of sexism is prevalent.

Now, this just really cracks me up! Maybe this was true generations ago, when a woman was expected to be barefoot, pregnant and have dinner on the table for her man when he got home from work. But nowadays? I think men know us women would go Ninja on them if that still held true. Yes, I like a guy to open a door for me, who doesn't? I've opened the door for others (men and women) It's not just gentlemanly, it's polite.

What do you think? Is that kind of behavior holding women back? Let us know at the poll below.
