Patience Beard, who's becoming known as "the girl with the zebra leg", is a freshman cheerleader at the University of Arkansas who made the twelve member freshman squad despite having a prosthetic leg. Her left leg was amputated at 9 months old after she was born with proximal femoral focal deficiency, which affects bone growth.

Her story is truly inspirational and we hope to have her on the air soon to talk about it with us.

Each week throughout the season, Football Writers Association of America and the Discover Orange Bowl choose a different nominee for the Courage Award. A blue-ribbon panel will choose the winner which will be announced in December.

Way to go Patience!
