Two Texarkana Texas Police Officers were assaulted while attempting to arrest a suspect last night.

Texarkana Texas Police arrested Gary Carson, 33 of Texarkana, Texas last night for two counts of assault on a public servant.

On January 26, officers responded to a disturbance in the 2400 block of West 11th Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. In the course of their investigation, the officers made the decision to arrest Carson for family violence. Upon being told that he was being arrested, he immediately started to fight with the officers outside the residence. He struck one of the officers in the back of the head with his fist and punched the other in the chest. Carson then fled on foot after being sprayed with pepper spray. During the foot pursuit, Carson picked up a log and threatened to hit officers. Officers lost sight of him at some point. A K-9 search of the area in which he was last seen was unsuccessful.

About an hour later, the victim in the original family violence incident called 9-1-1 again. She said that Carson had called her several times from his cell phone and threatened to blow up her house.

Officers later determined that Carson had eventually returned to the West 11th Street residence. He was arrested without incident at 1:19 a.m. and transported to the Texarkana City Jail.
